- Work absences are increasingly due to personal reasons such as illness, disability, or personal and family responsibilities
- Stress-related illnesses cost employers in terms of absenteeism, higher insurance claims, lost efficiency and lost productivity.

- Canadians are experiencing extreme levels of stress due to work-life conflict. Workers with a high work-life conflict had 13.2 days of absence per year compared to 5.9 days in those with low work-life conflict
- The psychosocial work environment, the organization of work and the management culture of the workplace have the most dramatic impact on employee stress and health outcomes

- At BC Hydro, an internal cost benefit analysis after a 10-year program showed a saving of $3 for every dollar spent
- When Canada Life Assurance Co. reviewed the results of its wellness program, it found that over 10 years each dollar they had spent on health promotion reaped a reward of close to $7
