Outdoor workers are exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun all year round. They have a higher risk of developing short and long term health effects from over exposure to the sun, than indoor workers. This includes sunburn, eye damage, premature aging of the skin and some forms of skin cancer.
A sun safety policy can help outdoor workers become more aware of the risks associated with sun exposure and the benefits of protective measures. Simple changes in behaviour and employment practices can reduce outdoor workers’ exposure to the harmful effects of UV rays from the sun.
